Alexander Isak scored and provided two assists as Sweden made a flying start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Sweden defeated Tunisia 5-1 in Monterrey, with Liverpool striker Alexander Isak delivering a standout performance on his World Cup debut.
Yasin Ayari opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a powerful strike before Isak doubled Sweden’s lead after combining brilliantly with Viktor Gyokeres. Tunisia pulled one back before halftime through Omar Rekik, but Sweden dominated the second half.
Isak set up Gyokeres for Sweden’s third goal and later assisted substitute Mattias Svanberg, who scored just 12 seconds after coming on to register the fastest goal by a substitute in FIFA World Cup history. Ayari completed the rout with his second goal of the match.
The result puts Sweden top of Group F and gives manager Graham Potter the perfect start to the tournament. Ayari also made history by becoming Sweden’s youngest World Cup scorer since Tomas Brolin in 1990.
Sweden will now look to build on their impressive opening victory as the race for a knockout-stage spot continues.
