Real Madrid Defeat Deepens as Celta Vigo Win 2-0 in La Liga

A damaging Real Madrid defeat on Sunday saw Celta Vigo claim a 2-0 victory at the Bernabeu. Madrid finished the match with nine men after red cards for Fran Garcia and Alvaro Carreras. The loss pushes Barcelona four points clear in the La Liga title race.

Williot Swedberg struck twice in the second half to seal the win. Madrid also lost defender Eder Militao to injury on a night filled with setbacks for Xabi Alonso’s side. The Spanish giants have now won just one of their last five league games.

Real Madrid Defeat Overshadowed by Red Cards and Injuries

Madrid returned home after six consecutive away games, including an NFL event hosted at the Bernabeu. Their poor run continued as they struggled to create clear chances. Celta goalkeeper Ionut Radu denied efforts from Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, and Vinicius Junior to keep the hosts frustrated.

Celta remained composed and confident. Swedberg opened the scoring with a brilliant flicked finish after Bryan Zaragoza’s cross. Garcia’s two yellow cards inside one minute reduced Madrid to 10 men, and Carreras was later dismissed for dissent. With Madrid in disarray, Swedberg rounded Thibaut Courtois late on to secure a memorable win.

Celta Vigo Rising

Celta’s discipline and pressure earned praise from striker Borja Iglesias, who called it a “great game”. The victory delivers a boost as they push to climb the table.

Elsewhere, Espanyol defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-0 to move up to fifth. Roberto Fernandez scored the winner from the penalty spot as Espanyol claimed a third straight league victory.
