Saudi Arabia has intensified efforts to sign Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, and insiders say Saudi Arabia wants Salah in the January transfer window. A source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF) said the kingdom plans to “do whatever it can” to make the transfer happen.
The source, who requested anonymity, explained that officials are watching the strained relationship between Salah and Liverpool. He said the plan could involve either a loan deal or a full contract purchase.
“We are following everything closely,” he said. “The move will come at the right moment.”
Saudi Clubs Compete for Salah Signature
PIF intends to bring Salah to play alongside global stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo. The fund owns majority shares in Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad, but interest extends beyond those clubs.
“There is competition inside the Saudi League to bring Salah,” the source said. He also revealed that Al Qadsiah, backed by Aramco, wants to join the chase.
Salah Drops Hint About Anfield Exit
Salah’s recent remarks increased speculation about his future. After remaining unused in Liverpool’s 3–3 draw with Leeds, he said he felt “thrown under the bus” and claimed his relationship with manager Arne Slot had ended.
Liverpool then left him out of the squad for the Champions League match against Inter Milan.
The Egypt captain will depart for the Africa Cup of Nations after Sunday’s Premier League match against Brighton. He hinted that the game might be his last for Liverpool before the winter transfer window.
Saudi Arabia Wants Salah for Sporting and Global Impact
Salah remains one of the most influential players in world football. He delivered two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy to Liverpool. Last season, he scored 29 goals and registered 18 assists.
The PIF source believes he still has more to offer.
“Salah is beloved worldwide,” he said. “He will transform the Saudi League on and off the pitch.”
