Fuji music icon, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, known as K1 De Ultimate, has dragged Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and others to court over the Awujale succession in Ijebuland.
The legal action challenges the ongoing steps to select a new Awujale. It seeks to halt the process until the court resolves the dispute.
K1 filed the suit at the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode. He is asking for an interim injunction to stop further actions linked to the Awujale succession.
Succession Dispute Draws in Ogun Officials
The respondents include the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Also joined are the Secretary of the local government, the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
K1 De Ultimate has openly declared interest in the vacant Awujale throne. He claims lineage from the Jadiara Royal House.
According to him, the Jadiara Royal House belongs to the larger Fusengbuwa Ruling House involved in the Awujale succession.
However, members of the Fusengbuwa family rejected his claim. They insist he has no ancestral link to the ruling house.
As a result, the disagreement has deepened the Awujale succession dispute.
Court Asked to Suspend Awujale Succession Process
In a motion ex parte before High Court 2, marked Suit No: HC3/238/2025, K1 relied on the Ogun State High Court Civil Procedure Rules, 2024.
He also cited Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
The application, dated December 16, urged the court to restrain Governor Abiodun and others from taking further steps.
K1 argued that the injunction would protect his interest. He also said it would preserve the subject of the Awujale succession.
According to the filing, any further action could prejudice the case. The applicant warned that the process may become irreversible.
As of the time of filing this report, the court has not fixed a hearing date.
