Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has reinforced her box office dominance as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, crossed ₦512 million in its first week in cinemas nationwide.
The milestone positions the movie as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 so far. It also makes the title the fastest Nigerian film to reach the ₦500 million mark this year.
Record-Breaking Opening Week
The film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, confirmed the development in a statement celebrating the movie’s historic run.
According to the distributor, Behind The Scenes broke five opening-week records across Nigerian cinemas. It also emerged as the number one film of the weekend shortly after its nationwide release.
“And yet, another history has been made,” FilmOne stated. “₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M.”
The distributor credited strong audience turnout across West Africa for the film’s early success.
Buzz, Cast, and Audience Appeal
Industry observers attribute the film’s performance to sustained pre-release excitement. Advanced screenings held on December 10 and 11 helped drive early momentum.
The movie officially premiered nationwide on December 12, drawing large crowds from its opening day. It features an ensemble cast that includes Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana.
Viewers have praised the blend of strong performances and engaging storytelling. That combination has helped the film maintain steady cinema attendance throughout its first week.
Akindele’s Box Office Legacy
The latest achievement adds to Funke Akindele’s growing list of box office records. Her previous film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, remains Nollywood’s highest-grossing movie of all time, earning over ₦1.8 billion in Nigeria alone.
That title had earlier surpassed the opening record set by A Tribe Called Judah, which debuted with ₦113 million. Together, the films underline Akindele’s consistent commercial appeal.
With Behind The Scenes still showing strongly nationwide, analysts expect its box office earnings to continue rising in the weeks ahead.
