I Was Given ₦100,000 to Bomb the Maiduguri Mosque — Boko haram Suspect

A suspected Boko Haram operative has confessed that he received ₦100,000 to carry out a bomb attack on a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Security sources disclosed the confession on Wednesday following the arrest of the suspect, identified as Ibrahim Mohammed. Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, with support from local hunters, apprehended him in Yobe State.

According to the sources, security operatives arrested the suspect during an intelligence-led operation in Damaturu after his behaviour raised suspicion. Officers then took him into custody for questioning.

₦100,000 Bomb Plot Linked to December Mosque Explosion

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted involvement in a deadly mosque explosion in Maiduguri in December, which resulted in casualties among worshippers.

He reportedly told investigators that terror commanders operating within the North-East planned the operation. He also claimed that handlers paid operatives assigned to execute attacks.

Furthermore, security sources revealed that the suspect may be part of a wider terror network plotting coordinated attacks across several locations in the region. Consequently, authorities have widened the scope of their investigation.

Security Agencies Intensify Probe After Confession

Following the confession, troops deployed to areas mentioned by the suspect to prevent further incidents. Meanwhile, intelligence units have stepped up efforts to identify collaborators, sponsors, and logistics suppliers linked to the plot.

Security agencies have urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement. They also advised the public to report suspicious movements, persons, or objects promptly.

For now, investigations continue as security forces work to dismantle remaining cells connected to the terror network. Officials say they will release additional details as inquiries progress.
