Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting residents and property. He spoke while receiving the newly posted General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, during a familiarisation visit.
The Governor stressed that security is costly but essential. “Anything done without prioritising security will amount to nothing,” he said. “If people cannot sleep peacefully, investments alone will not attract patronage.”
Gov. Otti assured the GOC of full cooperation from the State Government. “We believe in hard work and prioritising security. We are glad to have you here,” he added. He urged Major General Fadairo to visit all locations and battalions across the State to assess security operations.
GOC Promises Strong Measures Against Insecurity
Major General Fadairo, Commander of the South East Joint Task Force Operation Udoka, pledged to use his experience to curb insecurity and criminal activities in Abia State and the South East. Having served in the region as a young officer, he said he knows the terrain well. Therefore, he considers his deployment timely.
“I will bring my experience to stem the tide of insecurity. With community support, all security agencies can perform effectively,” Fadairo stated.

He thanked the Governor for supporting security agencies in the State. Moreover, he expressed confidence that cooperation between the government and security forces would yield positive results.
Heightened Security Ahead of Christmas
The Abia State Government has intensified security across the State ahead of Christmas. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Uba (Rtd), briefed journalists after the monthly Security Council meeting.
Commander Uba assured residents that security structures have been reinforced. He noted that agencies are on high alert, and additional personnel will be deployed to key locations. “We are responding to national security trends and pledging a hitch-free Yuletide season,” he said.

Finally, the security meeting, attended by all State security heads, reviewed ongoing operations. In addition, it adopted new measures to enhance public safety during the festive period.
