Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for public servants in the state as part of measures to cushion the hardship caused by rising fuel prices.
The relief package, which takes effect from April 2026 and will run for three months, was announced in a statement by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya. He said the intervention is aimed at reducing the burden of transportation costs. And helping workers cope with the rising cost of living caused by the recent fuel price hike.
According to the statement, eligible workers will enjoy one day off duty every week in addition to receiving the monthly transport allowance. The state government believes the move will ease the pressure on workers. While improving morale and productivity across the civil service.
Essential Workers Exempted from Weekly Day Off
While many workers will benefit from the weekly day off. Dapo Abiodun clarified that essential service providers such as medical personnel, teachers, judicial staff, security officers, heads of departments. And accounting officers will not be eligible for the off-duty arrangement due to the critical nature of their duties. However, they will still receive the ₦10,000 transport allowance.
The government also directed accounting officers in ministries, departments, and agencies to determine the specific day off. For eligible workers in a way that ensures uninterrupted service delivery.
The latest move highlights the Ogun State Government’s effort to shield workers from worsening economic conditions while maintaining public service efficiency.
