The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) plans to disrupt an opposition summit scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo state.
In a post on X on Saturday, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson of the ADC, said the party uncovered moves to frustrate the gathering.
“We have uncovered plans by the ruling APC to disrupt the summit being held by the opposition parties in Ibadan, Oyo state, today, April 25,” he wrote.
He claimed the party had earlier faced challenges in securing venues in Abuja.
“After denying us the use of venues in Abuja, they now will not leave us alone to hold our meetings,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the alleged actions contradict claims by the APC that it is not threatened by opposition activities.
“They say they are not scared, but they are behaving like people who are terrified. But we will not be deterred, because we are on the side of the Nigerian people,” he said.
The summit, themed “That We May Work Together for a United Opposition to Sustain Our Democracy,” aims to bring together leaders of opposition political parties across the country.
The event will hold at the banquet hall of the Oyo state government house in Ibadan.
Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, will serve as chief host, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo will chair the occasion.
Keynote speakers include Chidi Odinkalu, Usman Bugaje, Mike Igini, Pat Utomi, and Kabir Adamu.
