Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has blamed political saboteurs for the damage to a section of the newly commissioned N8.52 billion Lameco Flyover in Osogbo. He has ordered immediate repairs and heightened security surveillance across the state.
The 672-metre flyover officially opened on July 1, 2026. It forms part of a N100 billion multi-flyover infrastructure master plan. However, barely three weeks after its inauguration, authorities temporarily cordoned off the bridge. A section of the carriageway sank and developed a depression following a prolonged downpour.
Governor inspects damaged flyover
Speaking after an evening site inspection alongside engineers from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Governor Adeleke commended the rapid mobilisation to restore the damaged portion. He confirmed he had received a direct briefing from the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashiru Bello.
Condemning the act in an update posted to his official X account, Governor Adeleke expressed disappointment over the incident.
“Yesterday evening, I inspected the vandalised section of the Lameco Flyover in Osogbo,” he said. “I commend the hardworking engineers from the Ministry of Works who have swiftly mobilised to the site to ensure the immediate repair of the damaged section.”
Adeleke accuses saboteurs of undermining development
He added that it was unfortunate that saboteurs would resort to attacking public infrastructure built with taxpayers’ resources.
“It is unfortunate that some saboteurs, whose sole objective is to undermine our developmental strides and destroy the legacy of this administration, would resort to attacking public infrastructure built with taxpayers’ resources,” he stated.
He emphasised that these projects belong to the people of Osun State. Furthermore, he called on every well-meaning citizen to protect them from acts of sabotage and vandalism.
Governor orders security agencies to act decisively
“I enjoin security agencies to strengthen the protection of public infrastructure across the state,” Adeleke said. “Ensure that those responsible for this criminal act are identified, arrested, and brought to justice.”
“My administration remains resolute in its commitment to delivering quality infrastructure,” he added. “We will not be deterred by the actions of those who seek to impede our progress.”
Political row erupts over flyover damage
The incident has sparked an intense political row between the state government and opposition figures. Many residents have expressed concern over the quality of the infrastructure project. Consequently, the state government has vowed to get to the bottom of the matter.
The governor’s accusation of political sabotage has further heated the political atmosphere in the state. However, the government remains committed to completing its infrastructure agenda despite the setback.
