Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has visited former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, in Abuja.
Atiku disclosed the meeting in a post on his social media platforms on Wednesday, describing Aisha’s visit as “warm and deeply appreciated”. The purpose of the visit was not disclosed by either Aisha or Atiku.
Atiku said the meeting reminded those seeking to lead Nigeria of the need to prioritise the welfare, dignity and future of citizens. He also used the occasion to highlight the economic pressures facing Nigerian households, citing rising costs of food, transportation, education, healthcare and other basic necessities.
“Nigerians deserve an economy that rewards hard work, restores opportunity and allows every family to live with dignity and hope,” Atiku said.
He added that Nigeria needed to become a country that works for its people, promising to ease the burden on households, restore hope and “Make Nigeria Affordable Again”.
Aisha was accompanied by one of her daughters and some associates during the visit. She is the widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in July 2025. Atiku and Buhari were longstanding political rivals, including in the 2019 presidential election.
