Aisha Yesufu, activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from the African Democratic Party (ADC) and declared her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Yesufu said her decision followed her support for Peter Obi, whom she described as representing the hope of a better Nigeria.
“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation,” she wrote.
“This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as I follow the leadership of Peter Obi.”
Yesufu said she joined the ADC because of her support for Obi and decided to move with him to the NDC.
“When I give my word, I keep it,” she said.
“My decision to support Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour the promise, I am joining the NDC.”
The activist also announced her intention to run for elective office under the platform of the party.
“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT senatorial seat,” she said.
Yesufu said she had concluded all obligations with the ADC before leaving the party.
She added that her time in the party gave her the opportunity to serve in different leadership capacities.
“I was fortunate to work with great and amazing people whose goal was a better country,” she said.
