Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has opened up about having a male heir. The billionaire says having a son is not a priority for him.
Dangote made this known during an interview with ARISE News. He was asked if he still hoped to have a son. The 69-year-old businessman said he has left the matter in God’s hands.
“That one, I think is not my priority. Let me say it bluntly. It’s not really my priority because today as we speak, God controls everything,” he said.
According to Dangote, having a son does not guarantee that a family’s name will continue. He explained that some parents may pray for male children. However, the child may later damage the family’s legacy.
“Sometimes you can pray for God to give you a son, but that son might be the one that will take the name of the family down,” he said.
Dangote also advised people not to force what life does not give them.
Meanwhile, the billionaire is a father to three daughters. He believes they have done well and sees no reason to think a son would have achieved more.
“I don’t think if a son would have done better than these three daughters that I have,” Dangote said.
His comments challenge the traditional preference for male heirs in some parts of northern Nigeria. More importantly, they show his confidence in his daughters and what they can achieve.
