Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says all 22 registered political parties have submitted their membership registers in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.

In a statement issued on Friday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, chairman of the INEC information and voter education committee, the commission said the parties completed the submission process before the expiration of the extended deadline granted by INEC.

According to the commission, political parties had earlier raised concerns about the original timeline during a meeting held on March 24, 2026.

INEC said it subsequently adjusted the deadline from April 21 to May 10, 2026, to align with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act and the dates fixed by parties for their primaries.

“The commission is pleased to note that all registered parties submitted their registers as of 8th May 2026, two days before the extended deadline,” the statement read.

INEC explained that political parties were allowed to conduct their primaries between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

The electoral commission added that the law requires parties to submit their membership registers at least 21 days before their respective primaries.

According to INEC, the submitted registers will now undergo verification in line with legal requirements.

“The commission remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections,” the statement added.
