Trossard sends Gunners closer to Premier League title

Leandro Trossard scored a late winner as Arsenal beat West Ham 1-0 to move closer to winning the Premier League title.

Arsenal took a major step towards the Premier League title after a dramatic 1-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Belgian forward Leandro Trossard scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute when his shot deflected off Tomas Soucek and beat the West Ham goalkeeper. The win moves Arsenal five points clear at the top of the table ahead of Manchester City, although City still have a game in hand.

The match ended in controversy after West Ham believed they had scored a stoppage-time equaliser through Callum Wilson. However, VAR ruled out the goal for a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, sparking angry reactions from home fans inside the stadium.

Arsenal dominated the early stages and came close several times, with Trossard hitting the woodwork twice in quick succession. However, the game became more difficult after manager Mikel Arteta moved Declan Rice to right-back following an injury to Ben White.

West Ham grew into the match during the second half and nearly scored through Mateus Fernandes, but Raya produced a crucial save to keep Arsenal level before Trossard eventually found the breakthrough.

The result strengthens Arsenal’s hopes of winning their first Premier League title in 22 years and caps off a strong week after reaching the UEFA Champions League final.

For West Ham, the defeat leaves the club in serious relegation danger with only a few matches remaining in the season.
