Atiku Abubakar meets opposition coalition leaders in Abuja as talks intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has met opposition coalition leaders in Abuja. The meeting took place at his residence on Tuesday night. The talks come as opposition parties step up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, led the delegation. Several opposition figures also attended the closed-door meeting. Members of Atiku’s campaign council were present as well. The gathering reportedly included chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party and Allied People’s Movement.
According to PRP spokesman Muhammed Ishaq, the meeting focused on strengthening the opposition coalition. He said the discussions gave the delegation “tremendous inspiration.” Ishaq added that the coalition plans to meet other opposition leaders and presidential candidates.
“Leaders of coalition parties, as well as others interested in joining, recognise the need to broaden and strengthen the coalition’s capacity to defeat the APC in 2027 and give Nigeria a new lease on life,” he said.
Meanwhile, the coalition reacted to the reported arrest of five youths in Borno State. The youths allegedly wore T-shirts with the message, “Tinubu Must Go.”
Ishaq condemned the reported arrests and said the coalition would take up the matter.
“Nigeria must not become a country where citizens are treated as hostages and released only when political conditions are met,” he said.
The latest meeting adds to ongoing opposition consultations ahead of the 2027 polls.
