The crash happened at a railway crossing during rush hour, about 30 kilometres northwest of Brussels. Authorities confirmed that the victims included the bus driver, an escort, and two children aged 12 and 15.

Investigators said the train was moving at around 120 km/h when it struck the bus. Officials stated that the crossing barriers were down and warning lights were active at the time of the collision.
