A major breakthrough has emerged after the abduction of passengers in Benue State earlier this week.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed that the remaining 13 passengers kidnapped on Wednesday night have been rescued by combined security operatives. The victims were reportedly freed during coordinated rescue efforts involving police and other security agencies.
Police disclosed the development in a text message sent to journalists early Sunday morning. Authorities also announced that the Commissioner of Police will hold a press briefing later today at the Command Headquarters to provide more details about the operation.
The official message read: “Please note that there will be a press briefing by the Commissioner of Police concerning the rescue operation of the 13 kidnapped victims at the Command Headquarters today by 10:30 a.m.”
The passengers were among those abducted after gunmen attacked a vehicle earlier in the week, sparking fresh concerns over insecurity and highway kidnappings in Nigeria. Their rescue is expected to bring relief to families and residents who had followed the incident closely.
Benue State has faced repeated security challenges in recent years, including kidnappings, armed attacks and communal violence. Incidents involving travellers on major roads have raised calls for stronger protection measures and faster emergency response systems.
The successful rescue operation is likely to be seen as a positive step, but many Nigerians continue to demand lasting solutions to protect lives and restore confidence on the nation’s roads.
