A 19-year-old blogger has been arraigned in Lagos over allegations of cyberstalking and defaming UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu.
The Nigeria Police Force on Friday arraigned Nwanorue John Surpruchi before the Federal High Court in Lagos on a four-count charge bordering on alleged cyberstalking, online harassment, and defamation.
Prosecutors alleged that the defendant published and circulated false claims about Tony Elumelu and his family on social media, causing reputational damage and exposing them to public ridicule. The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecution requested that the court remand the defendant pending the hearing of his bail application. The defence sought a short adjournment to address the bail request.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa adjourned the case until June 19, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application. He also ordered that the defendant remain in correctional custody until then.
The court is expected to consider the bail application when proceedings resume later this month.
