Neymar makes Brazil World Cup squad as João Pedro misses out

Brazil have confirmed Neymar’s return to the World Cup stage after concerns over his fitness.

Neymar has been named in Brazil national football team’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking his fourth appearance at the tournament.

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said Neymar had improved physically after recovering from the serious knee injury that sidelined him for more than two years. The 34-year-old recently returned to boyhood club Santos after leaving Al Hilal.

Neymar remains Brazil’s all-time top scorer with 79 goals and will now aim to help the Seleção win their first World Cup title since 2002. However, João Pedro was left out of the final squad despite expectations he would earn a spot after impressive performances for Chelsea.

Ancelotti admitted the selection process was difficult due to the depth of talent available, with stars like Vinícius Júnior and other attacking options also included in the squad.

Brazil will head into the 2026 World Cup as one of the favourites to lift the trophy.
