The family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez has spoken out on the possible punishment for singer D4vd. They said they would support the death penalty if he is convicted of killing the 14-year-old girl. D4vd, whose real name is David Burke, faces trial over Celeste’s April 2025 death. He has pleaded not guilty to murder, child sex abuse and mutilation charges.
In a statement to the New York Post, Celeste’s family described the death penalty as fitting for the person they believe caused their daughter’s death.
“If the death penalty were activated, it would be perfect for this kind of human being,” the family said.
They also accused the suspect of having no feelings or conscience.
“But that’s not in our hands, but rather in God’s, and the California justice system,” they added.
Meanwhile, the final decision on the death penalty could come from Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. Celeste’s dismembered remains were discovered almost one year ago. The case has since attracted major public attention, especially because of the allegations against the young singer.
The latest development follows the withdrawal of D4vd’s former legal team. Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter asked the court to end their representation. The court later appointed the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office.
“We continue to support David and his defense against these serious charges,” the lawyers said.
Public Defender Walid Kandeel also promised a strong defence. He said David deserves lawyers who will carefully examine the evidence and take his circumstances seriously.
