Former Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has reacted after a South African court postponed its ruling in her deportation case until August 19. The beauty queen returned to the Cape Town Regional Court on Monday, July 20, 2026, for the hearing. However, the magistrate reserved judgment after both sides failed to reach an agreement. Soon after the court session, Adetshina shared an emotional update online. She wrote,
“Exhausted – Yes, Burnt out – Yes, Depressed – Yes, Will I give up, No!”
The case focuses on Adetshina’s immigration status in South Africa. Prosecutors argued that she is an undocumented foreign national. They asked the court to keep her in custody while waiting for deportation. The state also alleged that she obtained Nigerian passports for herself and her child in Lagos. According to the prosecution, she later secured a South African visa and entered the country through Mozambique. They further claimed that she still has a South African passport and has refused to hand it over.
Meanwhile, Adetshina’s legal team strongly denied the allegations. Her lawyers insisted that she was born in South Africa and has no meaningful connection to Nigeria. They also argued that the Department of Home Affairs failed to carry out a fair investigation before cancelling her documents. In addition, they maintained that she is not a flight risk. They reminded the court that her citizenship remains the subject of a separate High Court case.
Magistrate Reema Khorana encouraged both parties to settle the matter outside the courtroom. However, no agreement was reached before the hearing ended. As a result, the court postponed its decision on whether Adetshina should remain in custody pending deportation. Until the ruling is delivered on August 19, the case will continue to attract public attention, with many following every new development.
