Court Permits CCTV Footage in El-Rufai’s ₦10b Suit

A Federal High Court has approved limited CCTV footage in Nasir el-Rufai’s ₦10 billion suit against the ICPC.

The former governor filed the fundamental rights case against the anti-corruption agency.

However, Justice Chigozie Onah rejected requests to play the full six-hour recording in court. The judge explained that courts cannot spend hours reviewing lengthy security recordings.

Furthermore, the court agreed that public screening could expose sensitive commission facilities.

Court Limits Video Time and Rejects Cross-Examination

Justice Onah granted both legal teams 20 minutes each to present relevant clips.

  • Time Limits: Lawyers will show selected clips in open court during proceedings.
  • Chambers Review: The judge will review extended footage privately if needed.
  • Cross-Examination Denied: The court blocked el-Rufai’s request to question two ICPC officials.
  • Legal Grounds: The judge noted that fundamental rights cases rely strictly on affidavit evidence.

Meanwhile, the court adjourned the case until November 3 for a definite hearing.
