Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, says his uncle is winning the Osun governorship election. Davido made the claim while votes were being counted across the state on Saturday. He also mocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its performance in some polling units.
In a social media post, Davido claimed APC lost the ward of former Osun Governor, Bisi Akande.
“Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward. Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC. Osun no be Edo!” he wrote.
The singer has openly supported Governor Ademola Adeleke throughout the election campaign.
Meanwhile, Davido urged Osun residents to stay alert during the collation process. He also raised concerns about the possible withdrawal of security agencies from polling areas.
“I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee,” he posted.
In another message, he added,
“We are winning, guys! Security agencies shouldn’t be withdrawn from electoral units.”
However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not declared a winner at the time. Officials were sorting and counting votes at polling units across Osun State. By 5:51 p.m., results from 1,695 of 3,763 polling units had been uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal.
Governor Adeleke, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam had all expressed confidence before the final results. Salaam also laid complaints about alleged issues involving his party agents in some areas.
For now, all eyes remain on INEC as the final results are announced. Until then, Davido’s victory claim remains unconfirmed. Osun voters will have to wait for the official declaration to know who wins the election.
