England Await Late Fitness Decision on Declan Rice Before World Cup Semi-Final

England remain hopeful Declan Rice will recover in time for their crucial World Cup clash with Argentina.

England will make a late decision on Declan Rice’s fitness ahead of their FIFA World Cup semi-final against Argentina on Wednesday.

The Arsenal midfielder is recovering from a sickness bug that forced him off at half-time during England’s 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway in the quarter-finals.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel revealed Rice had spent three days in bed before the Norway match after falling ill in Mexico, where England defeated the hosts in the round of 16. Although he is yet to fully recover, his condition has improved significantly over the past two days.

England’s medical staff will continue to assess Rice before making a final decision. The midfielder is also managing a long-term nerve issue affecting his lower back and hamstring.

Rice has been one of England’s key players at the tournament. He has started every match except the group-stage win over Panama, which he missed because of an injury flare-up.

England are hoping the experienced midfielder will be available as they chase a place in their first World Cup final since 1966.
