Desmond Elliot says honesty defines his politics and claims he does not steal in office. The Lagos lawmaker also praises Tinubu’s leadership and highlights improved power supply in Surulere
Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has opened up about his political journey. The Lagos State House of Assembly member said honesty remains the foundation of his public service. According to him, he stays committed to serving the people without taking what does not belong to him. He said, “My own kind of politics, I don’t steal.”
The Surulere Constituency I lawmaker also spoke about what he considers his biggest achievement in office. For Elliot, improved electricity supply stands out. He believes Surulere has changed significantly over the years.
Speaking during an interview, he said, “I’ll say power. If you look at Surulere 10 years ago, it was a horrible place to live in. Today, electricity is one of the best you can find anywhere else.”
Beyond development projects, Elliot stressed the importance of humility in leadership. He reminded politicians that power is temporary and should be used responsibly. In his words, “We will all die one day. We are not here forever. You are in that particular place for a reason, not because you are better than the next person. Trust me, there are way better people than you.”
Meanwhile, the lawmaker shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s political future. He called for a homegrown democratic system and a long-term national development plan. “We have to define our own style of democracy. Let’s have a 30-year plan, for instance,” he said.
Elliot also expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, adding, “I’m thinking, okay, who is the next saviour that can remove Asiwaju from what he’s doing presently? I cannot see yet.”
