X Ends Creator Revenue Sharing, Launches New Rewards Programme

X, formerly known as Twitter, is ending its creator revenue-sharing programme. The final payment under the old system will cover earnings up to September 7.

The platform closed new applications for the programme on August 7. X says the move will help it focus more on creators who produce original content. The old programme allowed eligible creators to earn from engagement on their posts.

According to X’s head of creators, Allegra Jacchia, the old system encouraged some users to repost existing content. She said the company wants to reward creators who bring fresh ideas and value to the platform. The new system is called Original Content Rewards.

Under the new programme, creators will earn based on qualified impressions from their original posts. Content such as videos, threads, memes, reporting, commentary and photos can qualify. Original graphics, illustrations and creative edits may also earn rewards.

However, there are strict requirements. Creators must be at least 18 and live in an eligible country. They must also use a Personal or Business account and subscribe to a premium X plan.

In addition, they need 500 verified followers and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within 90 days. For now, only creators already enrolled in the old programme can join the new system. Applications will be handled through Creator Studio. Rejected applicants can appeal once or reapply after 90 days.

Meanwhile, the first payout under Original Content Rewards is set for August 28. Creators who enrol from September 8 should receive their first payment on September 25. X says payments will be made every two weeks, provided creators remain eligible.
