Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot has reportedly knelt to apologise to Femi Gbajabiamila. He pleaded with the President’s Chief of Staff after a disagreement over the APC primary election in Lagos.
A video making rounds online shows Elliot on his knees before Gbajabiamila. The lawmaker asked for forgiveness and also sought a return to the APC’s political fold in Lagos.
“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry,” Elliot said.
He added that he hoped to conduct himself better in the future.
The apology comes after tensions following the APC primary for Surulere Constituency I in May. Elliot had pulled out of the exercise at the time. He alleged intimidation and political pressure against his supporters. However, the actor-turned-politician later rejected the primary’s outcome. He also said he would challenge the process through the party’s appeal mechanism.
Meanwhile, Elliot eventually lost the APC ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare. She was widely believed to have Gbajabiamila’s backing. Odunuga-Bakare secured 11,385 votes in the primary. Elliot, on the other hand, received just 270 votes.
His decision to apologise now has sparked reactions across social media. Many Nigerians are also watching to see what the move means for his political future in Lagos.
