Dricus du Plessis Defeats Kamaru Usman to Revive UFC Middleweight Title Hopes

Dricus du Plessis returned to winning ways with a dominant victory over Kamaru Usman in the UFC Oklahoma City main event.

Former UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis defeated former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman by unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 49-46) after five impressive rounds in the UFC Oklahoma City main event.

Du Plessis used his size, speed and striking advantage throughout the fight. He repeatedly landed powerful right hands, knees and head kicks while defending Usman’s limited takedown attempts. After the win, the South African said his performance should earn him another shot at the UFC middleweight title.

Du Plessis Rebuilds Title Ambitions

The victory marks du Plessis’ first win since losing the middleweight title to Khamzat Chimaev in August 2025. He remains a strong contender, having previously defeated current champion Sean Strickland twice.

For Usman, the defeat is his fourth loss in his last five fights. The 39-year-old said he would reassess his future before deciding whether to continue competing at middleweight or return to welterweight.

The main event earned Fight of the Night honours, with both fighters receiving a $100,000 bonus. Tommy McMillen and Felipe Franco also collected Performance of the Night awards for their stoppage victories.
