The Edo State Police Command has arrested three men in connection with separate allegations of sexual abuse involving girls aged 11, 13 and 15 in different parts of the state.
Among those arrested is Daniel Erumudonmoh Okhuilegbe, who was reportedly engaged as a home lesson teacher for a 13-year-old girl. That was before he was accused of sexually assaulting her.
The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed the arrests. Also saying the command received a complaint alleging that the private tutor had abused the trust placed in him by the child’s family. According to the commissioner, police operatives responded to the report and moved to the area, where Okhuilegbe was arrested.
Daaor also disclosed that a 42-year-old man had been taken into custody over the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl in Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area. In another case, police arrested 29-year-old Samson Amachie over the alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Benin City.
The commissioner said Amachie allegedly lured the girl to an uncompleted building behind his shop. Where he allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with her. Daaor said the three cases were being investigated. He also assured that the suspects would be taken before the court for prosecution.
The police did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences or the identities of the victims. The allegations against the suspects are yet to be established in court, and they remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
