A prosecution witness has told the court that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello was not involved in the property deals under investigation.
An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) witness on Tuesday testified that Yahaya Bello had no role in the property transactions linked to the ongoing alleged money laundering case against the former governor.
During cross-examination, the witness explained that the title documents for one of the properties were returned to Efab Estate after the death of Dr. Farouk Bello, whom he described as a friend of his father.
The witness said an individual later approached him with documents indicating an intention to sell the property. However, he could not confirm whether the person was a son of the late Dr. Farouk Bello.
He further stated that he submitted the documents to the chairman of Efab Estate and confirmed that a second property, which was not marked by the EFCC, had originally been purchased by Dr. Farouk Bello.
The testimony came as the defence sought to establish the ownership history of the properties, while the prosecution maintained that questions about inheritance were outside the scope of the witness’s evidence.
