President Bola Tinubu has encouraged Nigerians to love one another, saying that “Islam does not support banditry, violence or the killing of innocent people.”
Speaking to journalists after observing Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Lagos on Wednesday, Tinubu urged Nigerians to embrace love, tolerance and unity.
“We must learn from the lessons of this season,” he said.
“Show love to one another, no discrimination, no ethnicity, no hatred.”
The president called on citizens to be generous and reflect the values of humanity and national unity.
“As you share, love and be generous to one another in a way that will reflect the value of our country and the humanity in us,” he said.
Tinubu also stressed the need for obedience to God and respect for the rule of law.
“It is essential that we be very tolerant, be obedient to the wish of Allah and obedient to the rule of law,” he said.
Addressing insecurity, the president said no Islamic teaching supports banditry or violence.
“Nowhere in Islam are you taught that you should engage in banditry,” he said.
“Nowhere are you taught that you should kill another human being.”
Tinubu said the core lesson of Eid-el-Kabir is sacrifice and the sanctity of human life.
“The sacrifice we are talking about, even in the beginning of life, where we take this Islam from, a child was replaced with an animal,” he said.
“That is what the value of Islam is all about.”
