The Court of Appeal in Kaduna has reserved judgment on Nasir El-Rufai’s bail appeal. The former Kaduna State governor is seeking freedom while his legal battle continues.
The court heard arguments from El-Rufai’s lawyer, Paul Erokoro, SAN, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Justice Onyekachi Aja Otisi presided over the proceedings.
Meanwhile, ICPC counsel Ayodeji Adedipe urged the court to dismiss the appeal. He told the court that El-Rufai had already filed three bail applications before the Kaduna State High Court. The High Court rejected all three applications.
However, Erokoro asked the appellate court to grant his client bail. He argued that the offences against El-Rufai were bailable. He also said the continued detention was affecting his client’s ability to prepare his defence.
After hearing both sides, the court reserved judgment. However, it did not announce a date for delivering the ruling.
