Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna state, has distanced himself from comments suggesting he plans to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement on Tuesday, Muyiwa Adekeye, his spokesperson, said El-Rufai did not authorise the remarks.
“Malam Nasir El-Rufai wishes to dissociate himself from comments regarding political aspirations attributed to someone described as a political associate,” the statement said.
“He did not authorise such comments.”
Earlier, Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi, a loyalist, made the claim.
He said Bola Tinubu would hand over power to El-Rufai by May 29, 2027.
He spoke to journalists at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.
This was shortly after El-Rufai was granted bail.
Makarfi also said El-Rufai is preparing to contest the 2027 election.
However, Adekeye dismissed the claim.
He said El-Rufai speaks for himself.
He added that the former governor does not use proxies.
“Throughout his public life, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has been known for the frank articulation of his views,” he said.
“He is not about to outsource his political thoughts.”
Furthermore, Adekeye said official statements will come directly from El-Rufai.
Or through his authorised spokesperson, he added.
