England secured their first victory of the UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2-0 win over the Czech Republic in Prague.
Thomas Tuchel’s side bounced back from their opening defeat by Spain at Wembley, controlling much of the match after Czech Republic midfielder Pavel Sulc was sent off in the first half. Sulc received a straight red card after 25 minutes for a high challenge on Elliot Anderson, leaving the hosts with 10 men for the remainder of the game.
England eventually broke the deadlock shortly after half-time when Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a precise cross for Anthony Gordon to head home in the 47th minute. The goal marked a strong contribution from Alexander-Arnold, who was making his first England start since October 2024. Gordon was again one of England’s most influential players after impressing in the defeat by Spain. The winger also developed a productive partnership with Lewis Hall, his former Newcastle United team-mate, who started at left-back.
England had created several opportunities before taking the lead. Morgan Rogers struck the woodwork in the first half, while Czech captain Ladislav Krejci later turned a Hall cross against his own post. The visitors continued to dominate after Gordon’s opener and eventually doubled their advantage through captain Harry Kane.
Kane sealed the win in the 69th minute after the Czech defence failed to clear the ball. The England captain finished emphatically with his left foot to score his 87th international goal in his 123rd appearance.
The result gives England their first Nations League victory under Tuchel after their opening loss to Spain.
