England Beat Mexico to Reach World Cup Quarter-Finals

England held off a spirited Mexico to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory and book a World Cup quarter-final clash with Norway.

England defeated Mexico 3-2 at the Azteca Stadium in a dramatic 2026 FIFA World Cup last-16 match. Jude Bellingham scored twice in just 98 seconds before half-time, while Harry Kane added the winner from the penalty spot after Anthony Gordon was fouled.

Mexico fought back through goals from Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez, while England were reduced to 10 men early in the second half after Jarell Quansah was sent off for a high challenge. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made several crucial saves before Thomas Tuchel’s side survived a tense 11 minutes of stoppage time.

The match was delayed by an hour because of severe storms and ended England’s long wait for a major victory at the iconic Azteca Stadium. Mexico also suffered only their third competitive defeat in 90 matches at the famous venue.

England will now face Norway in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after producing one of their most impressive performances of the tournament.
