Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, is facing a fresh dispute with the late actor’s family. The disagreement centres on a new documentary about the Black Panther star’s life and legacy.
According to court documents, Simone is working with production company Words + Pictures on the project. She is also seeking an offer from Searchlight Pictures to produce the documentary.
Simone says the proposed deal would treat both sides of Boseman’s family equally. She described the agreement as being on a “Most Favored Nation basis”. She said both sides received identical paperwork from the production company. However, Simone claims some of Boseman’s relatives asked for separate agreements. She says this has made it harder to move the project forward.
The actor’s widow also defended her efforts to include his family. Simone said she has “tried to consult with Chadwick’s family at all times” about projects honouring his legacy. She also claimed that she controls “100% right to control and benefit from Chadwick’s name, image, voice, signature, likeness etc.” According to her, she has made efforts to work with the family despite their differences.
Meanwhile, the documentary dispute comes as a separate estate battle continues. Boseman’s brothers have asked for Simone’s removal as administrator of his estate. They allege that she has not been transparent enough about the estate’s finances. Simone denies those claims. She says she has gone beyond her legal obligations when dealing with the family. She also claims she gave some relatives more money than required.
The legal fight remains unresolved, with no final court ruling on the competing claims stated in the report.
