Isaac Fayose has urged his elder brother, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, to reject his appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). He argued that the position does not reflect the former governor’s political stature.
Isaac made the remarks in a video posted on his Instagram page shortly after the Presidency announced Ayo Fayose’s appointment alongside 25 others into the boards and leadership of 10 federal agencies and commissions.
Says appointment falls below Fayose’s status
According to the Presidency, President Bola Tinubu appointed Ayo Fayose to chair the REA board. The board also includes Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors, while the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors retained their positions.
Reacting to the appointment, Isaac questioned why his brother was not considered for what he described as a more senior national role.
“They said they gave my brother DG, not a minister, not ambassador.”
He insisted the REA appointment did not match Fayose’s political standing.
“They gave him DG, head of parastatal, chairman of a committee. They no give him minister, they no give him ambassador.”
Compares appointment with Reno Omokri’s
Isaac also compared the appointment with that of Reno Omokri, whom he claimed received an ambassadorial position.
“Even Reno Omokri sef, they gave him ambassador. They couldn’t give my brother ambassador. So why just chairman of a parastatal?”
Links appointment to Obi’s visit
Isaac suggested that the appointment followed the recent visit of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to his residence.
“They gave my brother DG because Obi came on Saturday to visit me. So they said, no, we must enter that family.”
Peter Obi visited Isaac Fayose days after the social commentator threatened to withdraw his support for the former Anambra State governor. During the visit, Obi dismissed online criticism directed at Isaac, saying many of those attacking him were not genuine supporters of his movement.
Recalls Fayose’s earlier promise
Isaac said his brother had previously ruled out accepting government appointments after leaving office. According to him, Ayo Fayose had pledged to focus on his private business instead of seeking another public office.
“When I’m leaving Government House, I will not be a minister, I will not be DG, I will not be senator. I will face my business.”
He added that the former governor built his wealth long before entering politics and remained financially successful outside government.
‘Give the appointment to your son’
Isaac described the appointment as a “Greek gift” and questioned why it came years after Fayose left office.
Addressing his brother directly, he said he believed the former governor would reject the offer. However, he congratulated him before urging him to hand the position to his son instead.
“Congrats on your appointment. You better give your son. Please, don’t use that kind of appointment. You are too big for that. Afobaje ni e.”
The Yoruba expression “Afobaje ni e” means “You are a kingmaker.”
Predicts opposition victory
Isaac also expressed confidence that the opposition would win the 2027 presidential election.
He claimed the opposition already enjoyed strong nationwide support and dismissed concerns that the election would be manipulated.
“I’m not scared… They are scared of what they don’t know.”
