The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has approved an emergency financial intervention.
Authorities will disburse ₦100,000 weekly to every person placed in isolation or quarantine due to the Ebola outbreak.
NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris announced the stipend during a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday.
He explained that the funds are designed to ease family maintenance costs and cover feeding and accommodation for monitored contacts.
Consequently, the intervention aims to encourage full compliance with public health protocols without causing financial hardship.
“Covering Family Maintenance”: NCDC Explains Emergency Stipend Rationale
During his address, Dr. Idris noted that the emergency payment was introduced after contacts voiced concerns over financial strains.
- Comprehensive Support: The package covers daily feeding, secure accommodation, and family upkeep allowances while individuals remain in isolation.
- Active Monitoring: Health teams are currently tracking 53 primary contacts across designated facilities throughout the 21-day incubation window.
- State Responsibilities: Idris urged other state governments to establish emergency response funds to handle potential cross-border health threats.
Furthermore, the NCDC confirmed that preliminary tests on isolated contacts showing mild symptoms have returned negative results.
Intensified Surveillance and Containment Measures Across FCT
Shifting to broader public health measures, health authorities are actively reinforcing infection control protocols in medical facilities.
Medical teams continue to trace travel history links connected to the index case who arrived from Uganda.
“We are leaving no stone unturned to interrupt all potential transmission chains early,” NCDC officials stated.
Meanwhile, international health partners continue to provide technical assistance to support Nigeria’s robust epidemiological surveillance network.
Finally, the agency urged citizens to rely exclusively on verified updates and cooperate fully with public health officers.
