FRSC Deploys 555 Personnel for Eid Patrol in Osun

Command Begins Week-Long Safety Operation

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Osun State Sector Command, has deployed 555 personnel for a special Eid-el-Kabir patrol across the state.

Osun Sector Commander, Sunday Adebayo, announced the deployment in a statement released on Saturday in Osogbo.

According to him, the operation will run from May 25 to May 31.

The exercise aims to reduce road crashes and maintain smooth traffic flow during the festive period.

Patrol Teams to Cover Key Routes

Adebayo said FRSC officers will monitor major roads across Osun.

In addition, the command has positioned emergency response tools for the operation.

These include three ambulances, two roadside clinics, one tow truck, and 15 patrol vehicles.

The agency also plans to work with other security bodies to strengthen enforcement.

Road Users Urged to Follow Traffic Rules

The sector commander urged motorists to obey traffic regulations during the celebration.

He warned drivers against speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, and route violations.

He also advised transport operators to avoid overloading passengers.

According to him, strict compliance will help reduce accidents and improve road safety.

FRSC Seeks Wider Public Support

Meanwhile, Adebayo called for cooperation from road users and transport operators.

He also appealed to media organisations and stakeholders to support road safety campaigns.

He said stronger collaboration remains vital in reducing highway accidents across the state.

Rising Petrol Cost Pushes Up Transport Fare

In another development, transport fares have continued to rise ahead of Salah celebrations.

Many travellers blamed the increase on the growing cost of petrol.

As a result, transport expenses have placed extra pressure on road users.

Drivers Explain Fare Increase

A commercial driver at Nelson Mandela Park, Old Garage, Osogbo, Kola Ayanfe, said transport costs remain unstable.

He explained that the rise in petrol prices continues to affect fare charges.

Therefore, he advised travellers to plan early to avoid financial difficulties during the holiday.

He also urged the Federal Government to find lasting solutions to transportation costs.

Travellers Decry Economic Pressure

A traveller, Kafiyat Abdullahi, said she paid N2,500 from Ilorin to Osogbo.

She added that she expected to pay between N3,000 and N3,500 from Osogbo to Ibadan.

She blamed the economic situation on rising fuel prices.

According to her, higher petrol costs have also increased food prices and living expenses.

She urged transport operators to remain considerate when fixing fares.

She added that fair pricing could support business growth during the festive season.

Calls for Lasting Relief

As Eid approaches, road users continue to seek safer roads and lower travel costs.

Stakeholders have also renewed calls for affordable fuel and stronger traffic control measures.
