Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has sworn in 12 new permanent secretaries. He said their appointments would strengthen the civil service and improve government performance across the state.
The governor also described the appointments as an important step in building a more effective public service. Meanwhile, he urged the new officials to remain committed to the responsibilities entrusted to them.
The appointments come as Fubara continues efforts to reposition his administration after the political crisis that affected governance in Rivers State. However, the situation has eased following his reconciliation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Governor urges integrity and professionalism
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, Fubara reminded the new permanent secretaries of the oath they had taken.
He urged them to serve every citizen fairly, diligently and without bias. According to him, integrity and professionalism must guide every decision they make in office.
“The oath spells it out. Do right to all every man and woman. Do right to your state and do right to the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the governor said.
Appointment is a call to serve
Fubara said the office of permanent secretary represents the highest administrative position in the Rivers State Civil Service. Therefore, those who occupy the role must lead by example.
He advised the appointees not to view their appointments as rewards or personal achievements. Instead, he said they should see the opportunity as a call to serve the people and contribute to the state’s development.
The governor noted that each permanent secretary would supervise a ministry or government department. Consequently, they must demonstrate accountability, discipline and professionalism at all times.
Furthermore, Fubara expressed confidence in their ability to improve government operations. He said their experience and commitment would strengthen public institutions and enhance service delivery across the state.
Twelve officials take oath of office
Those sworn in include Mr Freddy Ndigbara, Mrs Fortune Akpila, Dr Promise Oguzie, Mrs Ibisoye Lolomari Nwankwo, Mrs Ibiyemibara Joseph Uzoma and Mrs Mercy Dagogo Iboroma.
Others are Dr Vincent Worgu Wachukwu, Mr Ifeanyi Anthony Ogboma, Dr Mina Gogo Jim-Jaja, Mr Henry Uzor, Mr Chimenum Anebo Mpi and Dr Mina Tele Ikuru.
Magistrate Betty Sunny-Hart, the Deputy Chief Registrar (Administration) of the Rivers State High Court, administered the oath of office during the ceremony.
Governor congratulates appointees
Fubara congratulated the newly appointed permanent secretaries and wished them success in their new roles.
In addition, he encouraged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedicated service. He also urged them to provide quality leadership, strengthen public institutions and support the development of Rivers State.
Finally, the governor expressed optimism that the new permanent secretaries would uphold the values of the civil service and make lasting contributions to the growth and progress of the state.
