Ghana beat Panama as Caleb Yirenkyi scores dramatic late winner

Caleb Yirenkyi scored deep into stoppage time to hand Ghana a dramatic victory over Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana defeated Panama 1-0 in Toronto after Yirenkyi tapped home in the 95th minute following a brilliant run and assist from Brandon Thomas-Asante. The late goal secured all three points for the Black Stars in a tightly contested Group L encounter.

Panama produced a disciplined performance and looked set to earn their first-ever World Cup point. They created several good chances, including an early effort from Cecilio Waterman that was pushed over the bar by Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi.

The Central American side continued to threaten after the break, with Cristian Martinez coming close and Ismael Diaz testing Ghana substitute goalkeeper Benjamin Asare late in the match.

Ghana struggled to create clear opportunities for much of the game but found the breakthrough at the last moment. The win came despite the absence of midfielder Thomas Partey, who was unable to enter Canada due to ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom.

Ghana will face Group L leaders England next in Boston, while Panama take on Croatia as they continue their search for a first World Cup point.
