Erling Haaland scored his 65th international goal for Norway, but Portugal held on for another victory to make it two wins from two in this season’s UEFA Nations League.
Portugal took the lead through Joao Felix, who scored his second goal in as many matches for the national team. Haaland responded early in the second half, tapping in from close range to level the contest.
Norway, however, were unable to build on the equaliser after goalkeeper Orjan Nyland made a costly mistake. Nyland played the ball directly to Portugal forward Goncalo Ramos, who produced a composed chip to restore Portugal’s lead.
Haaland had another opportunity to equalise later in the match but fired wide after Rafael Leao’s deflected effort struck the crossbar. Ramos appeared to have added another goal after another error from Nyland, but VAR ruled out the effort for offside.
The result gave Portugal their second victory of the Nations League campaign and maintained their strong start under manager Jorge Jesus. Cristiano Ronaldo watched the match from the bench as an unused substitute, meaning he will have to wait for another opportunity to continue his pursuit of 1,000 career goals. The 41-year-old needs 21 more goals to reach the landmark.
Despite Haaland reaching another international milestone, Norway left the match without a point as Portugal maintained their winning start to the competition.
