Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has explained why he does not worry about what his wife buys with her money. The former governor said his wife runs her own business and earns her own income. Therefore, he sees no reason to question how she spends it. Obi made the comments while responding to claims about his wife’s expensive bags, shoes and dressing.
According to Obi, some people have linked his wife’s lifestyle to his approach to money. He, however, said such concerns do not bother him.
“I don’t know how my wife dresses or the bag or shoes she wears,” he said.
Obi also noted that his wife was more sophisticated before he became governor.
More importantly, Obi stressed that public funds must never pay for his wife’s lifestyle.
“And if she earns money and wants to buy an expensive watch, that’s her own. It’s not my business,” he said.
He added that personal spending should not become a concern when it does not involve government money.
“As long as the life she lives does not in any way, bills are not paid from public money,” Obi said.
Meanwhile, the former governor also spoke about birthday celebrations. Obi said he personally does not celebrate birthdays because he is not interested in celebrations. However, he does not stop other people from celebrating theirs.
“As long as it suits them, it doesn’t conflict my interests, and I’m not paying the bill, I will even attend the party,” he said.
His comments have since highlighted his views on personal spending and public.
