Music star Davido has appealed to Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, to support a peaceful and transparent Osun governorship election. His appeal came after reports that the governor would chair the election committee ahead of the poll.
Speaking during a press conference, Davido said he had heard rumours of possible interference in the election. Although he stressed that he could not confirm the claims, he urged the governor to use his influence to protect democracy. He also explained that the appeal was personal because his wife, Chioma, is from Imo State. Davido said,
“To our daddy from Imo State, I say this with respect, sir. I have heard rumours suggesting that there are moves to interfere in the Osun State election. I do not present this case as fact, but I appeal to you, sir, to use your influence to promote peace and allow the people of Osun to choose their candidates freely. I have a deep connection to Imo State; my wife, Chioma, is from your state, which makes this appeal more sincere. Please, let Osun remain peaceful.”
The singer also shared a message with Osun residents on X. He encouraged them to remain calm, stay united, and vote without fear. According to him, no one should intimidate voters because the future of Osun belongs to its people. Days earlier, Davido had reacted to Governor Uzodimma’s appointment with a light-hearted comment. He said he liked the governor because he was from his wife’s state, but added that they would “meet on the field” during the election.
Davido has remained one of the most vocal entertainers in Nigerian politics, especially in Osun State. He actively campaigned for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the 2022 governorship election and celebrated his victory. Since then, he has continued to defend his uncle’s administration.
The singer recently mocked MC Oluomo over comments about Governor Adeleke and also exchanged words with Reno Omokri. In the past, he criticised former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and insisted he would continue speaking out whenever he believed democracy was under threat.
