“I Was Secretly Crying for Help” — Tonto Dikeh Shares Addiction Struggle

Tonto Dikeh has opened up about her past battle with drug addiction. The Nollywood actress also urged people to show compassion to those struggling with substance abuse. In an emotional Instagram post, Dikeh reflected on what she called a “dark road” in her life. She said her experience taught her that drugs only offer temporary escape.

“Substances don’t make the pain go away,” she stated.

According to the actress, drugs may provide a short break from emotional pain. However, the pain remains after the effect wears off. She explained that addiction can slowly take control of a person’s life. Over time, it can steal their joy, energy and sense of self. Dikeh’s message focused on the need to understand addiction beyond what people see.

Meanwhile, the actress also addressed how people viewed her during her difficult period. Many people saw her as chaotic or unstable, she recalled.

However, Dikeh said there was more happening behind the scenes. She revealed that she was secretly crying for help while using substances to cover deep emotional pain. Her revelation gives fresh context to some of the struggles she faced publicly.

Rather than judge people battling addiction, Dikeh called for grace and empathy. She encouraged people to support those who need help instead of condemning them.

Most importantly, she shared her own recovery as proof that change is possible. Dikeh said anyone trapped in addiction can also find freedom.

Tonto Dikeh’s message is simple; addiction can be painful, but recovery is possible.
