Ondo Military Crash: ADC Questions Civilians’ Presence on Aircraft

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for a full investigation into the military aircraft crash in Ondo State. The crash occurred on Monday, October 4, during a routine flight from Benin City to Lagos. Sadly, all 25 people on board died in the accident.

The Nigerian Air Force released the names of the victims on Tuesday, October 6. According to the Air Force, the aircraft had five crew members and 20 passengers. Six of the passengers were civilians.

However, the presence of civilians on the military aircraft has raised fresh questions. ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi wants authorities to explain why civilians, including children, were on the flight.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Abdullahi questioned the circumstances surrounding the trip. He said the party wants to know “why civilians, including children, were aboard a military aircraft that was on a ‘routine mission’.”

The ADC spokesperson also called for a proper investigation into the crash. He said Nigerians deserve clear answers about what happened before the aircraft went down.

Meanwhile, the crash has continued to spark public concern over military flight procedures. Many Nigerians will also want to know how civilians gained access to the aircraft.

For the ADC, the issue goes beyond the crash itself. The party wants authorities to explain the decision to have civilians on board and provide answers to affected families.
