Ray Emodi has finally explained why he announced his exit from Nollywood earlier this year. The actor revealed that burnout pushed him to step away after years of nonstop work. He also apologised to fans for the emotional announcement. Now, he says acting is still his first love and he is ready to return with a better balance.
Speaking in a recent YouTube video, Ray said he became exhausted after appearing in more than 300 productions since 2017. Those projects included movies, television series, and short films. According to him, he worked for eight straight years without taking proper breaks. He said,
“I acted since 2017 till last year ending. That’s about 300 productions… Eight years, no vacations, no rest. I was tired. If you do something too much, you get tired. I needed a break to find the love for acting again.”
The Nollywood star also made it clear that acting remains a big part of his life. He revealed that he studied acting professionally and even earned a master’s degree in acting for film. Ray admitted his decision to focus only on music came from exhaustion and emotion. He said,
“I have high respect for acting… Waking up one day to say I’m not acting again felt like I swindled you guys. I’m sorry for playing with your emotions.”
He added that his dream has always been to inspire people through his creative work, not just make money.
Earlier this year, Ray Emodi shocked many fans when he announced he was leaving the movie industry. At the time, he blamed traumatic experiences on movie sets and said he wanted to focus on music. However, his latest message tells a different story. The actor now plans to combine both careers while protecting his mental and physical health.
Fans will also be happy to know that Ray is returning to acting, but this time, he intends to take things at a healthier pace.
