INEC will unveil its 2027 election preparations on October 6, covering voter registration, nominations, logistics and election security.
INEC Sets 100-Day Election Countdown
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will unveil its 2027 election plans on Tuesday, October 6. The commission will mark 100 days to the polls with a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja.
INEC will update Nigerians on the voters’ register, candidate nominations and election logistics. It will also explain steps to protect the credibility of the electoral process. The meeting will give major stakeholders a chance to raise concerns ahead of the polls.
Amupitan Leads Stakeholder Engagement
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, will lead the engagement with other key stakeholders. The commission says the meeting shows its commitment to transparency and regular public communication.
“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” INEC said.
Political party leaders, security agencies and civil society groups will attend the meeting. Diplomats, development partners and election observer groups will also participate. Religious and traditional leaders, youth groups, disability rights advocates and media executives will join them.
2027 Election Dates Draw Closer
The engagement comes as preparations for the 2027 General Election enter a crucial stage. INEC has fixed February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
The commission will hold governorship and State House of Assembly elections on March 6, 2027. Before then, political parties must complete their primaries and submit candidates. INEC will also carry out other activities listed in its electoral timetable.
Amupitan became INEC chairman in October 2025. Since then, he has pledged to deliver free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive elections. Tuesday’s meeting will therefore offer stakeholders a clearer picture of the commission’s readiness.
Event Holds in Abuja
The meeting will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The event starts at 10am, with guests expected to arrive early.
INEC says attendance remains strictly by invitation. Accredited journalists and invited guests must show their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
Nigerians who cannot attend can still follow the event online. INEC will broadcast the meeting on major national television networks. The commission will also stream the event through its official social media platforms.
