WAEC Confirms Suleiman Kum as New Nigeria Head

The West African Examinations Council has confirmed Suleiman Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office.

Kum, 56, takes over from Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026. Dangut has now moved into a bigger role as WAEC’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer. Before his appointment, Kum served as Senior Deputy Registrar, Test Administration. He also worked as Deputy Registrar in the HNO’s office.

Kum brings nearly three decades of experience to the role. He joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II. Since then, he has handled major roles across the council. WAEC Nigeria’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, described him as “a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive.”

His track record also stands out. Kum pioneered Variable Data Printing and stronger security features in examination printing. He introduced facial-recognition biometric devices to replace council-wide attendance systems. He also helped deliver Achievement Tests through computer-based examinations. Beyond technology, Kum has deep experience in test development, examination security and office management.

Kum, who hails from Plateau State, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from NOUN. He is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the university. His previous postings include Awka, Yola, Makurdi, Gusau, Kano, Port Harcourt and Ikeja. He also helped establish the Gusau office as a Custodial Centre.With that experience, WAEC expects Kum to bring fresh energy to the Nigeria office. The council praised his “integrity, diligence, innovation and a strong commitment to service.”

His leadership across different portfolios has also earned him several commendations, accolades and awards.
